AIn September, the Rivermark ferry tested a bicycle booking system between East Quay and Pine Island. The scheme covered weekday sailings only; weekend sailings kept the previous system. Ten bicycle spaces could be reserved on each covered sailing, and reservations closed two hours before departure. A booking secured space for a bicycle, not a passenger ticket.
BPassengers could make a bicycle reservation through the ferry website or at the quay office. Both methods used the same pool of spaces. The trial report recorded forty website reservations and twenty office reservations in its first week. It did not record how long passengers spent completing a reservation. Staff checked each reservation number as the bicycle was brought aboard.
CA green sign was fitted above the bicycle waiting area after staff found that some cyclists queued beside the parcel desk. The sign was intended to direct cyclists to the correct place. The report described its position but contained no count of cyclists using the wrong queue after installation. Parcel collections continued at the original desk.
DDuring the trial, folded bicycles travelled free. The fee for an unfolded bicycle was two coins per crossing. If a sailing was cancelled, staff offered the passenger a choice: transfer the bicycle reservation to a later sailing or receive a refund of the bicycle fee. The same choice applied to website and office reservations.
